What is the difference between SLA and other Resin 3D Printer?

SLA 3D Printers uses a laser to trace contours , cure and harden UV liquid resin, whereas other resin 3D printers such as LCD printers (or MSLA) uses an LCD screen to mask UV light emitted by LEDs to selectively cure certain areas

What do I need to print with an SLA machine?

Other than the SLA 3D Printer, you will need the following:

  • Ultrasonic washing machine: to thoroughly wash resin residue off of the printed part using alcohol (Included with your purchase)
  • UV Oven: for post curing 3D printed parts allowing them to reach maximum strength and hardness (Included with your purchase)
  • Alcohol: it is required to wash the resin 3D printed part with alcohol to remove the resin residue and ease the removal of supports (NOT included with your purchase)
  • Resin: the printing material, liquid UV resin (Included with your purchase)
  • Computer (Slicing Software): to slice the 3D model and prepare for printing (NOT Included with your purchase)

Can I use different resin?

Theoretically yes, however, this will require confirming that the optical properties of the laser module will be able to cure the used resin

(Protofab resin cures at 350 nM wavelength, so using 405 nM wavelength will not cure)

The machines and printing parameters are tweaked and calibrated to print Protofab material, we strongly advise you to use Protofab's resin, otherwise proceed at your own risk
